Marianne's Book Club: Julie Montagu, Countess of Sandwich, ‘Secrets of an English Country House: A Year at Mapperton’

On 11th November, join Marianne Cartwright-Hignett for a glass of wine and fireside chat to get to know The Countess of Sandwich, Julie Montagu, from Mapperton House & Gardens.

A fellow custodian featured on More 4’s Saving Country Houses series, as well as her own YouTube channel The American Countess, she will introduce her first book, ‘Secrets of an English Country House’. Charting the realities of running the English country estate at Mapperton it spills the secrets behind its hidden doors.

Part memoir, part social history and part country‑house chronicle, this is an essential read for anyone fascinated by Britain’s historic houses, the families who care for them and the realities of preserving heritage in the modern age.

There will be opportunities to meet Julie before and after the event, with book signings and sales taking place at the end of the evening.
