Monkton Combe School is the proud winner of the Independent Boarding School of the Year Award – with exceptional benefits for day pupils too

At Monkton, the heartbeat of school life is about creating a vibrant community that thrives
every day. It defines the Monkton experience, shaping not just where pupils live, but how
they live: with purpose, connection, and joy.

Monkton’s boarding success is rooted in the distinctive way all pupils, whether day or
boarding, are fully involved in one of our six Houses and welcomed at school from breakfast
until bedtime. Our integrated House system fosters a culture of inclusion, mentorship and
personal growth, where every pupil is known, valued, and celebrated. The result is a vibrant
community in which pupils flourish in every aspect of their lives.

Boarding life at Monkton is defined by tradition, spontaneity and fun. The richness of thi
boarding experience is so appealing that day pupils regularly immerse themselves in the
community, often staying until 9.30pm for ‘In House’ evenings and making the most of all that
our boarding provision has to offer. The campus is alive with activity, and a highlight for many
is our weekend programme. Saturday nights feature varied, pupil-led events, from Bonfire
Night to Band Night, giving pupils ownership of their community. Sundays offer rest, but
many choose active options like trips to Thorpe Park, Bath Rugby, Ice Skating, or
Paintballing. The number of Day students opting to return at weekends is a proud
reflection of a boarding culture so engaging and welcoming that it attracts the entire
school community.

This culture draws pupils from across the UK and around the world, emphasising its
inclusivity, warmth and global outlook. From Lunar New Year feasts to international
community events, pupils learn not just about one another’s traditions – but how to live in a
world that values empathy and perspective. By living, learning and leading together,
Monkton students grow into adaptable, emotionally intelligent young adults, prepared to
thrive in a diverse and interconnected world.

James Goodman, Vice Principal, on winning Independent Boarding School of the Year
2025 – “It really is a team effort, with every member of staff contributing in different ways to
create the community in which all our students can thrive. This recognition is a testament to
their dedication, and we are proud to celebrate this achievement with the Monkton
community. Together, we look forward to building on this success and continuing to provide
an outstanding environment for our pupils.”
