Stonar School is delighted to announce the appointment of Aaron J G King as its next Headmaster. He will take up the role in September 2026, following the planned retirement of Matthew Way at the end of the 2025–26 academic year.
With more than 25 years of experience in education, Aaron brings extensive leadership expertise across both the UK independent sector and international schools. Educated at Mansfield College, Oxford, and Trinity Hall, Cambridge, he has held senior roles at Dulwich College, London and The Grammar School at Leeds, before moving overseas to lead schools through periods of academic and organisational growth. Most recently, he has been Head of a large international school in Bratislava, overseeing academic development, strategic expansion and the strengthening of community culture.
Throughout his career, Aaron has championed academic excellence, strong pastoral care and a deep sense of belonging. He believes that young people thrive when high expectations are combined with support and encouragement and built on the foundation of meaningful interactions.
Speaking about his appointment, Aaron said: “From everything I have learned so far, it is clear that Stonar is a school with a strong sense of identity and warmth, where young people are known and supported as individuals. What particularly attracts me to Stonar is the balance it achieves between academic ambition, pastoral care and wider opportunities, alongside the strength of relationships within the school community.”
Daniel Jones, Chief Education Officer, Globeducate said: “In our search for Stonar’s next Head of School, we were looking for someone who understands high‑quality independent education and who leads with humanity, clarity and purpose. Aaron stood out for his commitment to the pupil experience and his proven ability to build strong, supportive school communities. His leadership across the UK and overseas, including guiding schools through significant growth, gives us great confidence in the future. He brings exactly the blend of warmth, ambition and steady leadership that Stonar values.”
Aaron and his family look forward to relocating to Wiltshire and to joining the Stonar community ahead of him taking up his post in September 2026.
