Flute Seafood Café & Bar

Flute Seafood Café & Bar is preparing to open on George Street, and this week The Bath Magazine was invited to a secret tasting of the brand-new menu…

An all-day cosy hangout serving breakfast, an array of perfectly prepared, super-fresh seafood and the most exciting wines and cocktails the city has to offer… one thing’s for certain: Flute is no ordinary eatery!

Flute Seafood Café & Bar is the new kid in town when it comes to Bath’s food scene, and it’s sure to take the city by storm. Whether you’re looking for a fresh and exciting breakfast, intriguing and unique sharing plates, or a late-night cocktail adventure, Flute has you covered. Open from 8.30am-11pm Monday – Thursday, 8.30am-2am Friday and Saturday, and 9.30am-11pm on Sundays, it’s a truly versatile venue. The menu seamlessly flows from breakfast to à la carte with cocktails served all day, should you be so inclined. And this week, they invited us down to an exclusive tasting of their new menu!

The new restaurant is tucked snugly into the heart of Bath, on the corner of the Edgar Buildings in the middle of the city’s popular George Street. Fun and elegant in equal measures, the classic Georgian building proves to be the perfect spot for the timeless seafood spot. Step inside and soak in the lively atmosphere, perfectly combining cosy coastal-inspired interiors with sleek and stylish touches for a venue to suit every occasion.

Welcomed by the wonderful Front of House team we were introduced to Head Chef Alex who told us all about his background as a chef, his experiences fishing with his father as a child, the restaurant’s new Cornish seafood suppliers Wing of St. Mawes, and the inspiration behind his brand-new dishes.

Alex brought his carefully curated dishes out to us, starting with immaculately presented ribbons of Smoked Salmon on a semolina waffle, a modern twist on a classic breakfast. Next came a plate of fresh, melting Smoked Mackerel, perfectly complemented by a heap of apple ‘slaw and accompanied by a bright, spritzy mango cocktail, epitomising the combination of fun and fine dining that Flute prides itself on.

The restaurant’s emphasis on playful elegance shone through in the next dish – the Pint of Prawns. Served in an actual pint glass, the soft, meaty prawns pile over the rim and create a fun, interactive experience, whilst still offering flavour combinations (the prawns are served with a Bloody Mary Mayonnaise and soft, fresh bread) that exemplify the outstanding quality of the food and the chefs behind it. Next came an extremely moreish plate of Kedgeree Arancini followed by a fillet of haddock in a broth served in a cafetiere!

A delightful (not-too-sweet) apple tart was delivered for dessert, topped with a creamy ball of vanilla ice cream- the perfect finish to an elegant but vibrant meal.

Flute really is a cafe-bar with something for everyone: a breakfast to impress, sharing plates and cocktails for a day (or night!) out with friends, or a seafood meal like no other. The Flute experience has awesome food, good vibes, and unforgettable moments that come together in perfect sync.
