The shades of excitement for life

Preview Evening; 11 August, 6pm – 8.30pm

Visceral is a show presenting the work of figurative painter Mima Adams. Put together over the past three years, the show examines a range of subjects from realistic landscapes to fiercely personal portraiture.

She explores both natural and urban scenery from the perspective of a young person in an increasingly desolate political and economic climate. This transition to adulthood has never been more confusing – at once static and dizzying, mundane yet oversaturated. This raw narrative is representational of emotional journeys rooted in vulnerability. These contradictions within infatuation for the world’s beauty echoes the work of the Romantics.

Mima utilises both acrylic and oils in an intuitive visceral way. Pastel stains interpret experiences whilst vividity of scenery is amplified through an exaggerated colour palette, permanently branding artwork with the potency of temporary emotion.

These paintings reflect her perception of the world around her, depicting violets prised from grey clouds and warm yellow hues within friends flushed cheeks, the colours of giggling in someone’s bedroom, the shades of excitement for life.

There’s no desire to replicate a person or scene, simply to translate a vision of the world.
