Bath Academy is a small, friendly independent Sixth Form college that offers personalised tuition in small classes. The college environment is diverse, inclusive, and non-selective with a focused aim – to give personal attention to individual students. This is central and foremost to our academic vision. We believe that taking the time to get to know students and adapting to their individual learning styles leads to effective teaching, better learning, and a positive day-to-day community experience. This makes Bath Academy educationally distinctive and appeals to students of all levels of ability.

The college offers a wide range of academic subjects for A Level, Resit courses, GCSE, and Revision courses. Bath Academy is committed to helping each and every one of its students reach their full potential and incorporates a tailored enrichment and student development programme in order to achieve this.

The curriculum: Bath Academy aims to provide an encouraging environment in which the strong have something to aim for and the less strong nothing to run from, moving from a felt minus to a felt plus. As an independent sixth form college it specialises in a personalised, tailored education in GCSE and A Levels with tutorial support to match individual needs of students. The college prepares students to progress to top ranking universities in the UK, the EU and USA. Classes take place in very small groups (average class size of 4) with weekly mock exams and a one-to-one personal tutor system supporting students both academically and personally. The college specialises in STEM subjects and also offers subjects in humanities such as Psychology, History, Art, Photography, Media and Film.

Extra-curricular activities: All students participate in an Enrichment Programme which provides training and guidance in skills and character development, future planning (UCAS preparation and career workshops), mental health and wellbeing, and contributing to the school and wider community. This includes EPQ guidance and preparation with a specialist team of teachers. The college also holds various clubs each week and offers a social programme which includes local activities such as museum visits or outdoor pursuits, as well as day trips away to explore beyond Bath.

Pastoral care: Through the quality of teaching and learning, and the nature of relationships amongst students, teachers and tutors, the college aims to promote students’ personal and social development, fostering positive attitudes within a global community. The college believes that quality pastoral care focuses on the whole student (personal, social, and academic) by engaging all members of the school community as providers of pastoral care. The personal tutor system at the college allows for focused, individual care which was recognised in the most recent inspection report; “Pupils develop self-confidence and self-esteem rapidly because they receive individual attention in the school’s highly supportive environment.”

Outstanding characteristics: A reputation for enabling students to achieve far more than expected, with small class sizes, experienced teachers and personal tutors, as well as regular examination practice. The college strives to ensure that the academically confident are challenged and those needing further time and support are also encouraged. Students are admitted not on the basis of academic ability, but on their willingness to learn. Therefore, all students with a wide range of backgrounds and abilities are supported in progressing to the best universities for them and enter satisfying professional careers.
