At The Core: MBST therapy in support of an active life

Bath physiotherapy clinic uses MBST™  therapy to help patients with arthritic conditions get back to doing what they enjoy.

Despite first opening its doors during the recent pandemic, Bath physiotherapy clinic, At The Core, has already helped over 100 patients with rehabilitation, mobility and pain relief.

Alongside the traditional therapies you might expect from a physiotherapy clinic, At The Core has a unique point of difference. It is one of only 13 clinics in the country that offers MBST™ therapy as part of its practice to support healing, reduce inflammation and relieve pain.

Co-founded by Head Physiotherapist Adey Saunderson and business partner Paul Tisdale, they first encountered MBST™ therapy during their careers in professional sport, where they witnessed first-hand the effectiveness of the treatment in getting players back onto the football pitch quickly following injury. Upon further research, they found that the treatment, which has been used successfully for over 20 years in Europe, has considerable success in helping patients with arthritis, osteoarthritis and other musculoskeletal conditions find relief from pain, and improved mobility.

“After the MBST™ treatment, I was able to return all the occupational therapy aids – shower stool, perching stool for the kitchen, commode & wheeled trolley.” – FM, Brecon

“I was told that my condition was conventionally untreatable. But since having the treatment the inflammation and pain is 80% improved.” – SD, Bath

Using MRI technology, for therapy rather than imaging, energy is transferred to cells, exciting and encouraging cell proliferation and reducing inflammation markers. As part of a physiotherapy treatment programme, patients have enjoyed positive outcomes that have changed their lives.

The treatment is completely pain free. During a course of therapy, there is little do but lay back and relax. It’s peaceful and the device is non-enclosed. Patients often take a book, listen to music, or simply take a nap.

Osteoarthritis is a common complaint amongst people who have enjoyed an active life, particularly in sport or active professions. With no cure, and only a range of topical treatments to help alleviate painful symptoms, osteoarthritis can sometimes lead to joint repair or replacement surgery. This is where MBST™ therapy has been shown to help. it has been used by medical experts in conjunction with a rehabilitation programme when surgery or medicine has little to offer.

Jonathan Webb, Consultant Orthopaedic Knee Surgeon says of MBST™, ‘I am delighted to see this exciting new technology made available in Bath through the good work of Paul and his team. MBST™ therapy has already been shown to produce significant improvements in pain and activity in patients treated in centres throughout Europe.’

Recently recorded by the National Institute for Health & Care Excellence, NICE as having no adverse safety findings in the treatment of knee osteoarthritis, this non-invasive therapy offers an exciting opportunity for those suffering from inflammatory conditions such as arthritis and musculoskeletal pain to find some relief.

David Flatman recently visited the clinic for his rugby-worn elbows, ex professional footballer Christian Ribeiro found pain relief for knee osteoarthritis and Gregg Brown, Head of Cricket at a leading Bath school is pain free for the first time in many months after a course of treatment for early stage osteoarthritis in his knee.

Developed in Germany by Medtech GmbH, MBST™ technology has been used to address a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions in over 40 countries. One million hours of therapy, 270,000 patients, zero side effects.

Through a combination of pioneering technology, sound scientific reasoning and traditional hands-on therapies At The Core, Physiotherapy and Wellness Clinic delivers measurable outcomes and equips patients with the knowledge and skills they need to lead an active life, pain free life long after treatment has ended.

“After experiencing acute pain 6 months after a diagnosis for a meniscal tear and early stage knee arthritis from a long career in cricket, I recently had a course of MBST™ therapy. Along with exercise plan, as part of a wider physiotherapy treatment programme, I can honestly say that I am pain free for the first time in many months.” – GB, Bath
