Stone King: Managing child arrangements – top tips for separated parents

The summer school holidays are approaching and stress at this time can sometimes be magnified when parents are struggling to co-parent.

  1. Try to avoid involving the children in your decision, whilst their voice is important they will not want to feel pressured to decide.
  2. Have discussions with each other in plenty of time. Share travel plans and if there is a wish to go abroad, ensure that consent, if needed, is given in time and arrangements are made to share the passport.
  3. Respect the children’s time with each of you, however recognise that they may well miss their other parent and want to speak to them.
  4. Think about whether there is a need to alter the term time plans or arrangements, have these conversations in a timely manner.
  5. Remember that this is the children’s break too.
