Friends with Shakespeare: As You Like It Course

Come and transform your theatre going experience with Friends With Shakespeare

Over five evenings you and a small group will read through Shakespeare’s As You Like It, fuelled by drinks and nibbles and guided by actor and Friends with Shakespeare founder, Claire Cartwright.

You will read the play together, scene by scene. 

You will explore who Shakespeare was. You will examine the context of the play; the political, social and cultural landscape of the time. You will unpack the language, metaphors, imagery, and literary references as you go.

You will investigate the key themes, discuss your own interpretations and those of different critics and theatre makers throughout history. 

In short, the course will demystify Shakespeare!

Equipped with a newfound understanding and appreciation of Shakespeare and the play, the course will be capped off by watching the Ralph Fiennes/Bath Theatre Royal production, safe in the knowledge that you will understand every scene!

Afterwards the course will have a post-show drink to discuss and congratulate ourselves on having had a rich and fulfilling experience of seeing a Shakespeare play. Finally!
