Lecture by Marie-Louise Luxemburg
The talk will focus on the exciting life of Fanny Burney who resided in Bath and was a popular writer of the 18th century, in fact, she was Jane Austen’s favourite writer.
Her first long visit to Bath was in 1780 shortly after the publication of her first novel, Evelina. Her letters and journals contain descriptions of her various dramas such as fleeing Bath during the Gordon Riots, witness to the Madness of King George and The Battle of Waterloo.
The speaker is a published writer and family historian. She read English and Cultural Studies at the University of Warwick and for many years served as a Director and Chair of Programmes at the Bath Royal Literary and Scientific Institution where she frequently gave talks of historical and literary subjects.
Doors open 9.45am for coffee. Free for members, and a donation of £5 for non-members
