Match Fund Appeal: Protecting Girls from Child Marriage in Ethiopia

4 in 10 girls in Ethiopia are forced to marry before turning 18. Exposing young girls to serious risks: limited education, violence from their husbands, denied freedom and pregnancy before their bodies are fully grown. But you can help.

The Situation

Consecutive failed wet seasons and civil conflict have left families desperate, leading many to marry their daughters to wealthier families for security. This rise in child marriage strips girls of their freedom to shape their future.

The Solution
Ethiopiaid partner, APDA, combats child marriage by educating girls, engaging clan leaders on its harm, training Women Extension Workers to support at-risk girls and so much more.
