The Scallop Shell fish and chip restaurant and seafood grill on Monmouth Place in Bath has announced that its new bar and outdoor terrace is officially open.
“If we’re full, our customers can sit and relax and have a drink in the comfortable surroundings of our first-floor bar,” says Garry Rosser, chef/owner at the Scallop Shell. “We’ve extended our drinks offering and have just introduced a weekly-changing cocktail, which is perfect for all the warmer weather we’ve been having. On the menu this week, for example, is a raspberry and apple mojito, with Bacardi rum, homemade raspberry puree, sugar syrup, fresh lime, and fresh mint, with cloudy apple juice.”
The alfresco terrace has also been proving a big hit. With its nautical decor and secluded feel, “it’s easy to imagine you’re by the coast rather than the centre of the city,” adds Garry.
Diners can enjoy traditional favourites such as lightly battered, flaky cod and haddock, the freshest shellfish plates or the seasonal catch from the early morning coastal markets, which is displayed in a roll-top ice bath. “Any grilled fish with chips or salad is a great summery option,” suggests Garry, “and our Fisherman’s Lunch special – a choice of three mains, which all come with bread and butter, mushy peas, homemade tartare sauce and a mug of Yorkshire tea – for £10 per person, also offers great value.” The terrace will be open until the end of British summertime and is covered and heated for those days when it’s not so warm.
The Scallop Shell, which opened in 2015, was awarded its first AA Rosette for culinary excellence in March 2018, after achieving standards that standout in the local area, with food prepared with care, understanding and skill, and for using quality ingredients.
