Bath’s Queensberry Hotel is celebrating the award of four stars and a glowing report after its most recent AA inspection. The accolade reflects large-scale recent investment in all areas of the hotel, as well as a relentless focus on friendliness, attention to detail and customer service.

The inspection concluded it had been “A real pleasure to visit The Queensberry Hotel” and went on to describe “a very good stay, a guest focused approach … Hospitality a strong aspect.” The report, which also encompassed the AA Three Rosette Olive Tree restaurant, said “Food impressed, delivering sound skill and execution from the kitchen – AA Three Rosette Award and AA Breakfast Award easily retained and deserved.”

The award of four stars vindicates owners Laurence and Helen Beere’s ambitious recent programme of phased improvements to the fabric of both hotel and restaurant. Following 2015’s radical reshaping of The Olive Tree restaurant, the last year has seen equally dramatic and successful work undertaken throughout the hotel itself. This large-scale work has seen huge improvements to the hotel’s guest rooms as well as its public areas, from reception and drawing room to gardens and bar areas.

In addition to these works – set to continue soon – the report also singled out very easy interactions with friendly and helpful staff at all points of the visit. These included all those involved in check-in and check-out, as well as with knowledgeable bar staff and with Roman Vidal, the new restaurant manager recently arrived from Casamia, a five AA rosette restaurant in Bristol. His appointment, says owner Laurence Beere, along with the programme of improvements, the continued hard work of Chris Cleghorn’s team in the kitchen and, of course, the outstanding daily input of hotel manager, Magaly Etter, and the whole management team, clearly show The Queensberry’s direction of travel:

“It’s a huge thrill, of course, and a very tangible way to show our guests and diners – as well as ourselves, incidentally – that hard work, investment, ambitious recruitment and always trying to go that bit further really do all make a huge difference. Of course, what this does do, as well, is to set the bar even higher and make it incumbent on all of us to redouble our efforts, justify our billing every day and aim even higher.”
