Millfield will welcome over 300 of the best squash players in the country for the very first South West Millfield Gold Squash Tournament at the end of September.
The tournament, which features the highest playing level in the country, will be hosted over four different venues in Somerset, including Millfield campuses, the Shepton Mallet Leisure Centre, the Sydenham Squash Club and the Victoria Sports Club.
Top squash players will compete in over 10 different boys and girls categories, from Under 11, 13, 15, 17 and 19.
A number of successful squash players have come from Millfield Squash, including current world number one Mohamed Elshorbagy and his brother Marwan, currently ranked world number three, as well as current world 57 and eight-time Welsh national champion, Peter Creed, and female world 62 Siyoli Waters. In the 2017-2018 season, six Millfield teams of boys and girls competed in the National Schools Championships at U13, U15 and U19 level, whilst also achieving a number of successes at European competitions.
Millfield’s director of squash and head aspire coach for the South West, Ian Thomas, says, “We’re delighted to welcome the future of squash to showcase their talent at Millfield and nearby in the local area. The tournament is a perfect opportunity for players to gain experience in high-level squash, and for spectators to see the future of the game, and I can’t wait to see the standard on show.”
The South West Millfield Gold Squash Tournament is running from September 21 to September 23 and spectators are welcome.
