Working with Communities to Tackle Inactivity
4th October at 6:00 pm
Over three quarters of children and one third of adults in the UK fail to meet current physical activity guidelines. It is important that we find effective ways to help everyone enjoy an active lifestyle. However, there is often disconnect between the research and interventions conducted by universities, and the programmes delivered in the ‘real world’ by councils, leisure trusts and charities.
In this talk, Emma Solomon-Moore, a Lecturer in Public Health, will discuss the challenge of increasing levels of physical activity among children and adults. Using examples from her current research at the University of Bath, the talk will also discuss how researchers can work closely with external organisations and community members to ensure programmes are not only evidence-based and robustly evaluated, but also pragmatic.
